About this Speaker
Karen Helf has a history that reads as a diverse story. Her experience is as deep as her emotional connection to tennis. A non-stop student, Karen has “done time” in many industries; Information Technology, Finance, Banking, Local Government, Retail, Public Schools, Health Care, Communications, and Entertainment to name a few. She has gathered a deep well of tools to draw on when approaching problems, finding opportunities, and “Getting Sh*t Done” a.k.a. Project Management. Karen will provide a practical approach to managing “anything tennis” as a project. She knows given the right tools, anyone can do this. Before you take out a 2nd mortgage, line of credit, sell your right arm to finance your “Tennis Dream,” come acquire the tools to steer your ship.
Karen forged her path to tennis Journalism with no “industry” experience, no team, no coach, no backing, just tremendous heart, and years of corporate "lessons learned." Now 6+ years since Tennis View Magazine published her first article, a fan piece comparing Indian Wells and Miami, Karen has been a credentialed media representative at the ATP Paris Masters, BNP Paribas Open, Laver Cup 2018 (Chicago) /2019 (Geneva), Miami Open, Western & Southern Open, the Carlsbad Classic, Stanford, Eastbourne, Queens Club, and the Rafael Nadal Academy. She began “working” in tennis as a volunteer in Carlsbad, Indian Wells, and Miami in 2009.
In-person, Karen is a healthy dose of Doctor Seuss (Oh the places you will go..), a measured punch of Lou Reed (Dirty Boulevard), and a judicious scoop of Mikhail Gorbachev (“What we need is Star Peace and not Star Wars.”) She shares her birthday with these men. Recently, Joel Drucker, of the Tennis Channel, told Karen she is a “Warrior.” She accepts this title with a high degree of responsibility. Despite moving to California, Karen has not lost her New York edge. Her motto, "Let's Get It Done."
