Expert in return to activity/elite sport
About this Speaker
Dr. Boynton is widely recognized as one of the top orthopedic surgeons in the world, having served as the team surgeon for the Toronto Blue Jays for 10 years and earning many awards and accolades for her work with professional athletes, in teaching and in research. She has worked as the Medical Director for the Rogers Cup in Toronto for the past 20 years.
Part of her success stems from the fact that she takes a movement-first approach to surgery - she assesses for and prescribes exercises to fix underlying movement dysfunctions that lead people to consult with her in the first place. This resulted in approximately 70% of her patients canceling their surgery altogether.
Topic: Tennis is a demanding sport on the musculoskeletal system. Overuse injuries are common and affect almost everyone who plays the sport regularly. Today Dr. B will teach you how wear and tear injuries occur on the tennis court and what you can do to prevent them. The shoulder will be used as a case example to illustrate the principles of injury prevention and management.
